November Speaker: Dr Paul Spoonley
An Aging NZ Population
Professor Emeritus Paul Spoonley is one of New Zealand's leading social scientists with an extensive background in research on social and demographic change.
Paul is the author or editor of 29 books, including a biography of Ranginui Walker and “The “New” New Zealand: Facing Demographic Disruption”.
The over 65-year-olds are now 18% of the New Zealand population and will continue to grow until a quarter of New Zealanders will be aged over 65. At the other end of the spectrum , the numbers being born in New Zealand are declining - we are now 25% below the rate to replace our existing population.
These changes will reshape society and it needs to plan for the future.
