Art History : 2nd Thursday @13:15
We look at visual artists and art movements from any period of history, from cave art through to the current century. Members of the group take turns to research and give a talk to the rest of the group on an artist of their choice. This may include painters, sculptors and craft makers such as potters. The goal is to better understand what works the artist(s) created and why they worked in that style. Artists or art movements discussed in the recent past include Barry Brickell, NZ potter; Grinling Gibbons, woodcarver; Rembrandt van Rijn; the Dada art movement; Henri Rousseau; the arts of the Pacific; Gretchen Albrecht, NZ painter; and Vincent van Gogh.
